MEGAN'S
STORY

The Fakenham Ukes, who pride themselves in being a fund raising Ukulele group, are backing a local young lady to complete the London Marathon. In 2019 Fakenham Ukes supported the family of then 16 year old Megan Canning when diagnosed with a brain tumour.
This is Megan’s story.
Every year, 40,000 children in the UK are left with a brain injury as a result of an accident or illness, with many not able to access the support they need.
The Children's Trust aims to reach and support more children with brain injury and neurodisability to give them the best life possible. Donations will help the Trust achieve this goal, allowing it to provide specialist rehabilitation, education, and community services across the UK.
In 2019, at the age of 16, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I had been given a 5% chance of ever being able to do any function that any human takes for granted without support again.
After surgery, the tumour had been entirely removed. However, this left me with paralysis, an inability to walk, talk, or eat. I had to relearn such simple motor skills again, which at the age of 16 was very demoralising; as well as being stuck in a wheelchair, knowing I could walk, so for me was not an option. Thanks to the Children's Trust, I was supported and was allowed to be Megan again.
When I arrived at the Children's Trust, I was asked what my goal was. Since I was in my last year at school, my goal was to be able to walk at prom. As I was always told, "in typical Megan style," I wanted to run before I could walk.
I had 3 months of intense rehabilitation; myself and my family were supported, making the transition of accepting a disability and how to make my life easier and giving my family ways to help me so they didn't feel helpless. It allowed me to relearn my fine and gross motor skills, from tying my shoelaces to walking unaided.
I arrived at the Children's Trust in a wheelchair and left using my two feet.
The Children's Trust has an exceptional place in my heart. They supported me in being me again, and without their guidance and support, I wouldn't be as strong and independent as I am. Allowing me to regain control of my life and ways to manage having a brain injury.
They helped me walk, so I want to thank them by running and raising funds for an exceptional charity.
If, like the Fakenham Ukes, you would like to help Megan raise funds for The Children’s Trust please go to her go fund me page at The Children’s Trust: Megan’s page -2025 TCS London Marathon.
We played at the Sandringham visitors centre for the Kings's Coronation celebrations on both the 6th and 8th of May.

The video is of us playing and singing the King's Coronation Song on Saturday 6th May.

THE KING’S CORONATION SONG
They say there’s a new proclamation
A new ruler we have for the nation
As steady as rock, he comes from good stock
So join us in our jubilation.
As steady as rock, he comes from good stock
So join us in our jubilation
And sing for the Ki-ng
Sing for the Ki-ing
And sing for the King with a song
Has always been known, he was heir to the throne
To follow the steps of another
He learnt from the best, ‘til was put to rest
The Queen of the world the King’s mother
He learnt from the best, ‘til was put to rest
The Queen of the world the King’s mother
And sing for the ki-ing
Sing for the Ki-ing
And sing for the ki-ing with a song
His mother gave all for her people
His father he stood Princely tall
He follows in the footprints of giants
And we toast the new King, one and all
And drink to the Ki-ing
Drink to the Ki-ing
And drink to the King to the end
And drink to the Ki-ing
Drink to the Ki-ing
And drink to the King of England. …... ENGLAND
